Hair

Hair to be pulled back off face and in a bun for performance/comp, elite classes, Technique, Flex Ability and ballet classes excluding Lil Ballet. All other classes to have hair pulled back of the face.

Here is a little bit of information about wearing a bun to dance classes.

Having a student's hair in a slick tight bun in every dance class holds several important reasons and benefits. Here are a few points that highlight the significance of this practice:

1. Safety: One of the primary reasons for requiring a slick tight bun is to ensure the safety of the dancer. Dance involves various movements, jumps, and turns, which can cause hair to fly around and obstruct the dancer's vision. By having the hair tightly secured in a bun, it minimises the risk of accidents or distractions caused by hair getting in the way.

2. Professionalism: A slick tight bun adds a touch of professionalism to a dancer's appearance. Dance is an art form that demands discipline and attention to detail, and having a neat and uniform hairstyle contributes to the overall polished look of the dancer. It instills a sense of commitment and respect towards the art and the dance environment.

3. Focus and Concentration: Dance requires immense focus and concentration. By keeping the hair in a slick tight bun, dancers can eliminate the need to constantly adjust or manage their hair during class. This allows them to direct their attention solely towards the dance techniques, choreography, and instructions given by the instructor, enhancing their learning experience.

4. Body Alignment and Line: In certain dance styles, such as ballet, a slick tight bun helps maintain proper body alignment and line. The hairstyle ensures that the neck and head are elongated, allowing for better posture and alignment of the spine. It also accentuates the lines of the body, creating a visually pleasing aesthetic that is often desired in dance.

5. Unity and Team Spirit: Having a uniform hairstyle, like a slick tight bun, promotes a sense of unity and team spirit among dancers. It establishes a visual harmony within the group and creates a cohesive look, especially during performances or group routines. It reinforces the idea of working together as a team and contributes to the overall professionalism and cohesiveness of the dance group.

It is an important practice for the reasons mentioned above. It not only ensures safety and professionalism but also helps dancers focus, align their bodies correctly, and foster a sense of unity within the dance community.
